Art manifesto for the Double Jeu 2020 exhibition

The future is hypothetical part of the timeline, where many events that haven’t had happened may take a place. Because of the fact that events are characterized by both time and place, the hereafter shows the space-time continuum.

Garden Les Jardins d'Etretat plays to experiment with content and sets new theme for Double Jeu exhibition in 2020 - Garden of the Future. The garden is ideal place of solitude for reflection and searching for scenario of a possible future. Les Jardins d'Etretat suggests to think together about the future, raising the most pressing issues of our time: the relationship between nature and man; issues of personal freedoms and non-conformism; environmental revolution; development of artificial intelligence and technology.

Les Jardins d’Etretat makes an initiative as a participant and agent for influencing the worldview of the future and also as the first neo-futuristic garden. The Garden is based on principles of expediency, minimalism, as well as environmental friendliness, ethics and manufacturability. This is an attempt to restore optimism and enliven faith in a better, greener future for the planet, in which technology and advanced scientific achievements will be used for the benefit of humanity and nature. Modern landscape design moves from traditional utilitarian approach to harmonious engagement of nature in urban environment. Perhaps in the future, landscape tradition of a locality or city will completely outlive engineering criteria. Massive sheared plants will insensibly become new architectural material for the formation of expanse.

The nearest future is a peaceful revolution of ecology. Obviously, the topic of the future cannot be considered without environmental context that inextricably ties other spheres of life. Today, environmental thinking is bound to become a super-professional skill that defines economic, political and social development. Ecology ceases to be a "foreign matter", and environmental practices enter any human activity: from professional to everyday. Double Jeu is no exception. Les Jardins d'Etretat calls to reflect this topic in the works of the exposition in 2020.

Everybody has its own future perspective. Over the past ten years, countless scripts, discourses, dystopian books have overloaded the world. Les Jardins d’Etretat suggests to ignore the infinity flow of information and focus on your own version of the future. Will the environmental revolution really be peaceful? Will scientific and technological innovations be linked to collective theoretical and political thought, in which women, queer and gender nonconforming people play an unexampled role? Will artificial intelligence come to assistance of human thought? The 2020 Double Jeu exhibition by Les Jardins d’Etretat is an attempt to build bridges between wide panorama of tomorrow, as it is described by society, and living reality.
